Though Amy’s
first run is good, for it to get better, the nonverbal environment needs to
become richer. To help stimulate the nonverbal I give her a direction having to
do with Etta’s ongoing psychological state.
In her second run she successfully opens the nonverbal
environment and this does shift the sense of who the character is. By
continuing this process she’ll be able to explore the possibilities of the
multiple aspects of Etta.
Amy’s comment on the pressure she feels to “do it right” in
an audition is something that most actors can relate to. I suggest a different
way to approach the audition process that is anything but “do it right”.
